Healing of your tattoo and care

There are two tattoo healing methods: “classic healing with absorbent pads” and “modern healing with a protective film.” The choice depends on the nature of your tattoo. In some cases, applying a film may not be possible, and classic healing is recommended.

About Classic Healing

  • The artist will apply a temporary bandage to protect your tattoo from dirt and bacteria (keep it on for no more than 2–4 hours).
  • Purchase absorbent pads and a healing cream with D-panthenol from your artist or a pharmacy.
  • For the first three days, change the pad in the morning, afternoon, and evening.
  • Each time, wash the tattoo under running water with soap, using gentle circular motions to remove excess ink, plasma, and dried blood.
  • After washing, gently pat the tattoo dry with a paper towel or let it air dry (do not use terry cloth towels).
  • Always change the bandage with clean hands and apply a thin layer of healing cream.
  • Repeat this process for the next three days until the tattoo is fully healed.
  • Avoid physical activity to prevent sweating in the tattooed area.
  • Do not scratch or pick at scabs, as this can cause ink loss and scarring.
  • Starting from the fourth day, your skin will begin to peel.
  • You no longer need to use absorbent pads – just continue moisturizing.
  • Do not soak the tattoo (avoid baths, saunas, and pools).
  • Avoid sun exposure, as UV rays can damage the ink.
  • The tattoo is considered healed after 20 days of proper care.
  • Once fully healed (especially during the first summer), apply SPF 50 sunscreen if exposed to sunlight.

About Modern Healing

  • This method involves applying a medical film.
  • Your artist will place the film for you – you only need to follow their recommendations.
  • The film should stay on for at least 3 days, but no longer than 5.
  • Do not remove the film prematurely unless it naturally peels off or starts leaking. It provides a sterile environment, protecting the tattoo from bacteria, dirt, and mechanical damage.
  • Ensure the film remains sealed and sterile.
  • Plasma (a clear or slightly reddish liquid) may accumulate under the film – this is a normal healing process.
  • Avoid physical activity, as sweating may cause the film to detach.
  • Do not submerge the tattoo in hot water – take only lukewarm showers.

Removing the Film on the Fifth Day

  • To ease removal, take a warm shower.
  • Carefully wash the tattoo with warm water and antibacterial (or baby) soap, free of alcohol and fragrances.
  • Do not rub – gently pat dry with a paper towel or let it air dry.
  • Apply a thin layer of any moisturizing cream and continue to moisturize as needed.
  • Continue tattoo aftercare for another two weeks.
  • Wash the tattoo twice a day.
  • Avoid sun exposure and apply SPF 50 sunscreen when outdoors.
